Michigan Real Estate The Wolverine State has several important waterways that include Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. One of the longest suspension bridges in the world, the famous Mackinac Bridge connects the upper and lower peninsula of Michigan at the point where lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. This northern Midwestern state has a strong economy attracting many types of businesses. Michigan’s upper peninsula is bounded on the north by Lake Superior, on the east by Lake Huron, on the south by Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Hunters and fishermen add to the economy
here as tourists who come for an opportunity to hunt or fish for
deer, bear, lake trout and other species. The logging industry has had to take a new approach to harvesting by using selective harvesting and accompanied by a replanting program. Secondary timber now adds to the Michigan economy. Christmas trees add a seasonal boost to this forest-based sector of the economy. The mining industry contributes to the state’s economy through the extraction of gypsum, sandstone, limestone, salt, cement, sand, and gravel. The climate of the state is moderated by the influence of the lakes that surround this northern state. The agricultural industry here contributes significantly to the economy through the production of apples, asparagus, beans, beef, bison, blueberries, carrots, celery, cherries, corn, cranberries, cucumbers, dairy products, elk, deer, flowers, ginseng, grains, grapes, green onions, hay, hothouse plants, honey, lambs, wool, maple syrup, mint, onions, peaches, plums, pigs, potatoes, poultry, eggs, rhubarb, soybeans, strawberries and sugar beets. The aquaculture industry here produces bass, bluegill, catfish, shrimp, sunfish, trout, walleye, muskellunge and yellow perch. Michigan’s agricultural and aquaculture sector adds to the states manufacturing sector by supplying the resources for the production of breakfast foods, butter, cheese, cottage cheese, cream, evaporated milk, fish products, ice cream, powdered milk, sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, wine, and yogurt. The manufacturing sector of the Michigan economy produces automobiles, transportation equipment, fabricated metal products, non-electrical machinery, primary metals, chemicals, paper, pharmaceuticals and furniture. The mining industry in this state also contributes to the economy through the extraction of bromine, calcium-magnesium chloride, cement, gypsum, iron ore, gravel, magnesium compounds, peat and sand. |
