  Real estate in the North Beach neighborhood lies in what is with out doubt the most European area of San Francisco. North Beach is close enough to all the important elements that make San Francisco and can be enjoyed with out a vehicle. The narrow roads here divide this part of the city also known as Little Italy. Homes in North Beach include older apartment buildings, single-family houses and modernized units.
There are a limited number of single-family homes here with condominiums and commercial real estate being the most common. North Beach is a truly diverse ethnic community. The beat generation created a strong current of alternate literature leaving us the famous City Lights Bookstore, started by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and blazed the way for the soon to come hip generation. A large number of rental homes are available near Fisherman's Wharf. These buildings are for the most part are multiunit and duplex structures. Rents here are reasonable compared to other parts of San Francisco.

North Beach offers a wide variety of things to do with a number of the most entertaining clubs and taverns in San Francisco. In this neighborhood there are many little fashion shops that offer handmade attire and exotic merchandise. North Beach earns its name of Little Italy by offering a large number of Italian eateries, authentic cappuccino shops and European style delis. Interspersed with the historic landmarks you will find shops offering nightclubs, jazz clubs, high-end art shops, small inns, family eateries, bakeries and gelato parlors. While this is Little Italy you can also find Japanese, French and modern fusion menus. If you follow Grant Avenue, San Francisco’s oldest street, north out of Chinatown you will see the Chinese restaurants turn into Barbary Coast Saloons, second hand shops, pizzerias and unique fashion shops. And of course the availability of fresh seafood is a given with the famous Fisherman’s Wharf and its markets.

Washington Square
As ethnic as the neighborhood is sits in; people practicing Tai Chi, taking in the rays or enjoying a mini picnic use Washington Square. The most notable building adjacent to Washington Square is Saints Peter and Paul
   
Catholic Church gracing the north side of the square. This little spot of green in The North Beach neighborhood is bounded by San Francisco Bay on the north and east, Vallejo Street on the south and Columbus Avenue on the west.

Telegraph Hill
Homes around Telegraph Hill are within view of the famous Coit Tower that sits atop the hill with magnificent views. When Coit Tower constructed on the hill and cars could traverse the hill it attracted the wealthy looking for views and nice homes. Here you will find Victorian styled homes, Art Deco structures and modern buildings spread throughout the streets around Telegraph Hill. Narrow landscaped lanes, a maze of little streets and long flights of steps conceal some nice little cottages here.

Telegraph Hill is bounded by Lombard Street, Sansome Street on the east, Filbert Street to the south and Telegraph Hill Boulevard.

The Cannery
One of the largest cannery’s in the world was run existed here as an active manufacturer of canned goods until the 1920s. In 1963 this famous location was transformed into a shopping center. This waterfront marketplace offers unique shops, eateries, live entertainment, and a world-renowned jazz club. The old Cannery is made up of three levels of twisting walkways, verandas and bridges surrounding an inviting courtyard with 130 year-old olive trees and several outdoor cafes.

You will find this wonderful shopping experience located at the north end of Columbus Avenue.

Ghirardelli Square
The Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory was the inspiration for the architecture here and when the company was sold and moved a project was launched to preserve the historic buildings here. The old chocolate factory became a landscaped square filled with exclusive shops and fine cafes.
