Nob Hill homes sit in one of the smallest neighborhoods in San Francisco. The hill on which this neighborhood was built has great views of the San Francisco Bay and the surrounding city. The history of the hill represents wealth but the earthquake and fires of 1906 removed many of the mansions of that time. As might be expected gentrification has had its effect on this very historical district
bringing a surprising profusion of designer shops, fashionable restaurants and chic nightspots. But this neighborhood recognizes its important ties to its own history and here you will also find classic barbershops, traditional coffee shops and cocktail lounges that reflect design form time gone by.

There is no doubt that Nob Hill has an outstanding vista of the other San Francisco hills. If you are riding a San Francisco cable car up Nob Hill you will certainly enjoy what you see. On Nob Hill you will find a number of majestic buildings including Grace Cathedral, a reproduction of Notre Dame Cathedral in France; Huntington Park Hotel, Nob Hill Masonic Center, the Cable Car Museum as well as a number of other majestic hotels that surround Huntington Park. In this neighborhood a number of very extraordinary apartments can also be found.

While Nob Hill is host to a number of well-known San Francisco landmarks and the celebrated hotels is sits amidst a very diverse downtown area.

It can be difficult to distinguish the precise boundaries of the Nob Hill neighborhood. This guide covers an area roughly bordered by Polk, Post, Mason and Washington Streets. Housing prices in this upscale neighborhood run from $700,000 to $5,000,000.

Polk Gulch
The Gulch was erected on an underground river. This eclectic neighborhood runs from Russian Hill through Nob Hill and into The Castro District offering a very fascinating concoction of eateries and java joints. Polk Gulch was the first gay district in San Francisco and still offers many gay taverns and other gay oriented stores and trendy shops. Rents in this area that could be considered an antonym of Nob Hill are lower than in the main area of the district.

Huntington Park
Certainly a center of upscale San Francisco containing upscale restaurants, upscale clubs, upscale hotels and upscale prices. This center of greenery is a beautiful spot in the middle of affluence.

Huntington Park is in itself an attraction worth seeing especially since the Nob Hill Association has completely restored and maintains this green space on Nob Hill. The noted Fountain of the Tortoises has also been totally restored a highlight of this striking green space full of luxuriant flora.
